Custom Staircase & Glass Railing Renovation

This project was a complete transformation of an existing staircase and upper-level railing area.

Originally, the upper section of the staircase was closed off with a wall and built-in cabinetry, which made the space feel darker and more enclosed. We removed the existing wall and cabinetry and completely opened up the area to create a cleaner, more modern look.

In place of the old wall, we installed a large single-piece glass railing system with a custom wood handrail. This required very precise measuring, fabrication, alignment, and installation because the glass had to fit the space accurately while still creating a clean and seamless finished look.

We continued the same design down the staircase, replacing the existing railing system with matching glass panels and wood handrails so the entire staircase would have one consistent and modern appearance.

The staircase itself was also completely refinished and upgraded. The original dark wood finish was removed, and the stair treads and visible wood components were restored and finished in a much lighter wood tone. This made the entire area feel brighter, larger, and much more contemporary.

The combination of clear glass, light wood, and open sightlines completely changed the character of the space and turned the staircase into one of the main architectural features of the home.

You can see the full transformation in the before and after photos, including the removal of the upper wall, the new one-piece glass railing, the redesigned lower stair railing, and the complete staircase refinishing.
